10:35 A.M. – PREPARED SPEECH SESSION

We had two speakers attempting their prepared speech exercise from the CC manual.

TM Janani in CC1 spoke about her life’s journey so far and how she associated it to a bouncing ball.
She came with well prepared speech about herself, her speech reinstated the fact that there’s always more than what meets ones eyes.

TM Siddarth’s speech revolved around the lessons he had learnt during the floods that had occurred
in Chennai in the year 2015. He gave an interesting narration on how he along with his neighbours
survived the flood situation.

11:00 A.M. – TABLE TOPIC SESSION

TM Shriram introduced the TTM - TM Sowmya.
She surprised everyone by introducing two different ideas for the TT session –“Films that Flopped” “News Makers”.
Participants were called upon to either rave about a flop film they had seen or talk about a news
maker either of TTMs choice or their own.
Though the session started off well, with more and more topics on news makers, speakers’ speeches
started drifting more towards politics, a taboo for any meet. The session later quickly ended on note reinstating members to stay away from drifting towards taboo topics even if they had to speak about a personality who happens to be in politics.

TM Sowmya
'Member with a reason'
TM Sowmya started her speech by saying that I'm a mainframe developer who's working with Cognizant, not many know about why I'm here with Toast Masters Club or what I'm apart from my profession. Born a little late for children's day, Nov 15th , my tardiness trend has never slumped with time. And I’m not exaggeration, my love for English as an language also originated when I had to come up with stories to explain my belatedness. Though I’m known for my good communication skills, I always felt that there is some big room for improvement .Being a scorpion by sun sign, I am more a cynical critic to me than anyone else. So, I started pushing myself in volunteering for anchoring events to keep my fire for English prowess alive. And that’s when I found out that I had to hone my ability to deliver a speech that would be rhetoric and powerful. She conclude saying that that’s why I am here at the club that nurtures peer improvement in communication and leadership like no other club.

journalist Steve Mc Curry which appeared on the june 1985 cover of National Geographic.
The image is of a young woman Mona Lisa with green eyes in a red headscarf. He feels so
blessed to get an opportunity to meet his favourite politician. It was women’s Day
celebration. The meeting started 2 hours later. Criticism varied in tone and sarcasm. Media
grew restless because the most awaited leader hasn’t turned up. Finally the man arrived and
photographers struggled to take a snap. Surprisingly, the layout artist made his picture as the
cover picture of magazine. He concludes saying that ‘This is the beginning’.
